Invite your mom to enjoy the sunset in Balboa Park and the beautiful Israel Photo Exhibition at this mother's day wine and cheese event.

This event will present the 60 finalists of the Israel @ 60 community photo contest, and allow the visitors to vote for the three ultimate contest winners. These three contest winners will be revealed a week later at the Yom Haatzmaut event, and will become an annual permanent exhibit at the newly renovated House of Israel.

During the event the neighboring House of Israel will remain open for tours, so you are invited to pay us a supporting visit as well.

Beta Dance Troupe (beta is an Amharic word meaning house) presents a unique program of traditional Ethiopian Jewish dance, mixing elements of Ethiopian tribal and artistic dance based on the culture of Ethiopian Jewry. The troupe combines contemporary music and traditional African rhythms. Along with fascinating movements and captivating rhythms, Beta offers audiences powerful insights into the experiences of exile and homecoming.

Israel@60 Photo Exhibition

In collaboration with the House of Israel at Balboa Park as a special tribute for Israel@60, this upcoming Yom Ha'atzmaut the UJF Israel Center, LLC is organizing an Israel@60 Photography Exhibition.

The theme for the exhibition is "ISRAEL - A LAND AND ITS PEOPLE".

Photos must be submitted electronically by April 15^th - The deadline for submissions in now over.

Maximum of 3 entries per person.

With each photo, indicate the date it was taken, a title of the photo, and a brief description of what appears in the photo (up to 60 words).

Some of the best photos will be printed, framed, and displayed in the Photo Exhibition tent at the Yom Ha'Atzmaut Festival. We will notify you if one of your photos is chosen to be displayed.

The photographers of THE BEST 3 PHOTOS will be awarded a prize and become exhibits in the newly renovated House Of Israel based on the following criteria: Theme Relevance, Originality, Creativity, Composition/Arrangement, Focus/Sharpness and Lighting. We will notify you if you are one of the 3 winners.

Your presence at the Photography Exhibition tent during the Yom Ha'Atzmaut Festival is not required.

By submitting your photographs you are giving the UJF Israel Center, LLC and/or the House of Israel full discretion to use your submitted photographs as they see fit.

Walk the Land

A one-mile worldwide walk!!

Kick off the Yom Ha'atzmaut Independence Day Festival with a one-mile walk in support of Israel! Join local San Diegans as you pass by beautiful murals of Israeli cities in this first-time-ever global event!

Each participant will receive a unique Israeli "passport" to be stamped along the path. The General Walk begins at 11:00 a.m. and an alternative Youth Walk begins at 2:00 p.m. departing from the JCC's baseball diamond.

Register now: $5/person includes an official hat, water and original passport. Proceeds benefit the building of a safe Regional High School in Sha'ar Ha'Negev, San Diego's partnership region in Israel.

Jacobs International Teen Leadership Institute - July 10-29, 2008.

Created in 2000, the Institute realizes the vision of its founders to create a program dedicated to the education and leadership development of young people in the context of interaction with other cultures. The ultimate goal of JITLI is to create a partnership between the communities of San Diego, Sha'ar HaNegev, Segev Shalom and Lakiya. JITLI aims to break down stereotypes and build lasting relationships leading to a vibrant and meaningful co-existence.

JITLI offers the opportunity for the participants to appreciate their similarities, acknowledge their differences and understand each other's cultures. JITLI impacts the lives of the young participants forever, imbuing them with the knowledge, the tools and the will to affect their own futures and those of their peers and communities. The United Jewish Federation of San Diego County running a special Taglit-Birthright Israel trip EXCLUSIVELY for San Diego County young adults ages 22-26, on July 16^th, 2008 in honor of Israel's 60^th birthday. We'll visit the Sha'ar HaNegev Region of Israel, San Diego's Partnership Region, and learn how it is dealing with the current conflict in nearby Gaza, hike Masada, swim in the Dead Sea and spend Shabbat in Jerusalem and even visit Eilat -- Israel's Cancun! As part of this fantastic experience, we'll spend part of the trip with Israeli soldiers exploring the differences between life in America and life in Israel.
