Kef Li San Diego - Medura for Lag Baomer/Yom Haatzmaout and Yom Hashoa Butterfly Project & Picnic
While this program is open to the general public, the majority of attendees are Hebrew speaking and the activity is meant for those who want to use or practice their Hebrew.
Medura early (as Lag Baomer falls this year on Memorial Day week-end when a lot of us travel) this is the week of Yom Haatzmaout (5/8) and in honor of Yom Hashoa (5/1) too we're going to do a butterfly project in memory of those we have lost. (painting and glazing small ceramic butterflies as a group and they'll be displayed with others from around the world at the Jewish Academy in San Diego) More on the Academy's Butterfly project here. I'll have a bunch of these for our kids to do and for the Academy to add to their wall for us. I'll bring the marshmellows as usual. Please put me at ease and contact me early if you're willing to volunteer to bring wood this year. RSVP here.
What to bring: Please bring sweaters, change of clothes, small mini grills if you want to have more control of your food (you can put your food on the medura directly, but you may have to fish it out!) there may be a few grills there - but those bringing them keep Kosher so no Pork - suggest you bring kosher hot dogs only), hangers to string up potatoes and foil, blankets and chairs to sit on, etc. Balls to throw/kick, etc. Bring a guitar if you have one and play or other instruments if you're game. We've in years past stayed late to see the fireworks from SeaWorld on Sunday nights and then sing together into the night around the Medura...
